Initial Verification Course
LCL‑Accredited Electrical Installation Verification Training in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight

Develop Practical and Theoretical Expertise with SERT
SERT’s Initial Verification course, accredited by LCL Awards, combines practical exercises with thorough theoretical knowledge for electricians looking to confidently commission and certify new electrical installations. Learners gain hands-on experience on fully operational systems, replicating real-world conditions and building competence in applying BS 7671 wiring regulations and IET Guidance Note 3 requirements.
Our trainers bring years of on-site experience, not just classroom teaching, ensuring learners understand exactly how regulations are applied in practice. At SERT’s Whiteley training centre, learners work on wall-mounted demonstration boards, practicing safe isolation, fault finding, testing and verification. This approach equips electricians with skills that are immediately relevant in domestic, commercial and light industrial settings.
Who the Course Is For
This course is ideal for experienced electricians and electrical operatives who either do not currently hold an initial verification qualification, wish to renew an existing qualification or are new entrants to the electrotechnical industry seeking structured, accredited training. It is not designed for individuals looking to enter the electrical trade, but SERT carries out an initial assessment to ensure each learner has the knowledge and capability to complete the qualification.
Prerequisites
- Learners must have an understanding of electrical systems.
- Learners must hold a BS 7671 Requirements for Electrical Installations (current edition) qualification.
- SERT, as an Approved Centre (AC), conducts an initial assessment of each learner’s capability to complete the qualification.
- Evidence of these prerequisites is documented and retained by SERT in line with LCL requirements.
What Learners Will Gain
Over three days, learners engage in structured training that blends theory with practical application. They develop expertise in safe isolation and disconnection of supply, single and three-phase testing, earthing systems, fault detection, and completion of verification documentation and certification. Learners also gain a clear understanding of how to apply BS 7671 and IET Guidance Note 3 requirements in real-world scenarios.
All training takes place on live, fully operational installations, giving learners practical experience and confidence that set them apart in the electrical industry. Assessments include practical tasks, online multiple-choice exams, and written short-answer assessments, ensuring learners demonstrate both knowledge and practical competence.
