SERT: Paving the Way to a Bright Future for the Younger Generation

16.07.2024

At SERT, we take immense pride in playing a pivotal role in shaping the futures of the younger generation. Our commitment to nurturing young talent and providing them with valuable skills is evident through our recent initiatives and programmes. This week, we are thrilled to welcome two enthusiastic secondary school students, Hannah and Tom, for their work experience placements, as well as an engaging visit from The Cowplain School students to our Woolston and Whiteley sites.

Empowering Future Marketers: Hannah’s Journey

Hannah, who is spending her time with our digital marketing department, has expressed a keen interest in acquiring marketing skills that will benefit her future art career. She has set clear goals for her time with us:

“I want my work experience to teach me important marketing skills that will be able to help boost my future art career. The skills I want to learn include: creating a memorable brand, being able to understand how to captivate an audience, and being able to create products like posters and online posts to reach a wider audience. Not to mention, I would also like to enhance my ability to work with people on a set brief as these assets will not only help me in my work life but also in every aspect.”

Our digital marketing team is dedicated to providing Hannah with hands-on experience in brand creation, audience engagement, and the development of marketing materials. From brainstorming sessions to creating visually appealing posters and social media content, Hannah is immersed in real-world projects that will hone her skills and boost her confidence.

Exploring Recruitment: Tom’s Ambitions

Tom, on the other hand, is diving into the world of recruitment. His enthusiasm for learning about the intricacies of recruitment is infectious:

“During my work experience, I’m really looking forward to expanding my career options and seeing how recruitment works up close. I’m excited to get a real feel for how companies find and hire people, and to pick up some practical skills along the way. This experience will help me figure out the best direction for my future career.”

Our recruitment team is providing Tom with a comprehensive overview of the recruitment process, from sourcing candidates to conducting interviews and making job offers. Tom is gaining practical insights into the strategies and tools used in recruitment, which will undoubtedly broaden his career horizons.

Inspiring the Next Generation: The Cowplain School Visit

We were delighted to host a group of Year 10 students from The Cowplain School at our Woolston and Whiteley sites. This visit was designed to inspire and inform students about the diverse career opportunities available through apprenticeships and diplomas in gas, electric, and metering.

At our Woolston site, the students were welcomed and given an insightful tour. Our excellent trainer, Kevin (Meterson), conducted a demonstration on metering, while Garry showcased his expertise in gas training. The students were highly engaged, asking questions and showing a keen interest in the demonstrations.

The journey continued at our brand new renewables centre in Whiteley, where the students met Graham, our highly experienced electrical trainer. Graham provided an in-depth education on solar energy, explaining its significance and future prospects. The tour concluded with an introduction to our newly appointed Head of Training and IQA, who provided a detailed tour of air source heat pumps, highlighting their importance in sustainable energy solutions.

Building Futures Together

At SERT, we believe in the power of education and hands-on experience to build brighter futures. By welcoming students like Hannah and Tom and engaging with schools like The Cowplain School, we are investing in the next generation of professionals. Our commitment to training and development ensures that young people are equipped with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their chosen careers.

We are excited to see where the futures of Hannah, Tom, and all the students we have inspired will lead. With continued support and dedication, SERT remains a beacon of opportunity for young talent across the UK.
